Dusty ruby color. Aromas and flavors of purple flowers, cigar box, and raspberry and cranberry sauce with a velvety, lively, dry medium body and an interesting, medium-length finish manifesting shades of blackberry, cocoa nibs, and purple flowers. A lovely red blend to pair with a winter roast and semi sweet root vegetables, and it will satisfy lovers of oak and dark fruit alike.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.
