Dark ruby color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, fruit leather, wet leather, and pickling brine with a round, lively, fruity medium body and an interesting, medium-length finish displaying suggestions of black cherry, blackberry, leather, and spices. Sweet and fruity with a touch of earthy funk; a full bodied, juicy snack with fruit leather and tobacco tannins.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.
