Black violet color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry and garrigue, black cassis, potting soil, and pomegranate with a thick, lively, dry full body and a warming, compelling, long finish with overtones of ricola cherry cough drop, nutmeg and clove, leather and coffee grounds, and molasses with coating tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. A broad shouldered red that demands a food pairing and would be a great option to try for a new world Cabernet drinker.

While Portugal is best known for its production of Port wines, there are several types of red wine also produced in various regions. The best known of these include the robust reds produced from varieties that are used to produce Port, varieties such Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao. These wines are produced in the Dour Valley and are ripe with black fruit flavors; the wines generally have slightly low acidity, due to the hot local climate. Drink these wines with rich red meats, game or aged cheeses.
