Black violet color. Aromas and flavors of prune juice, dried rose petals, and sage with a round, lively, dry full body and a warming, complex, long finish with notes of sour and ripe black cherry, blood orange, and bitter chocolate covered raspberry with barky tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. Absolutely dry but dark black fruits and cocoa nibs dance on the palate; give this a try if you enjoy a high octane California Syrah.

While Portugal is best known for its production of Port wines, there are several types of red wine also produced in various regions. The best known of these include the robust reds produced from varieties that are used to produce Port, varieties such Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao. These wines are produced in the Dour Valley and are ripe with black fruit flavors; the wines generally have slightly low acidity, due to the hot local climate. Drink these wines with rich red meats, game or aged cheeses.
