Black violet color. Overripe aromas and flavors of sweet and savory black fruits and herbs, blackberry and plum sauce, and fudge and lavender with a round, dry full body and a tingling, complex, long finish that shows nuances of stewed black cassis, tart black cherry, and dried cranberry with firm tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. A big red that remains nibble and versatile for a number of food pairing possibilities.

While Portugal is best known for its production of Port wines, there are several types of red wine also produced in various regions. The best known of these include the robust reds produced from varieties that are used to produce Port, varieties such Touriga Nacional and Tinta Cao. These wines are produced in the Dour Valley and are ripe with black fruit flavors; the wines generally have slightly low acidity, due to the hot local climate. Drink these wines with rich red meats, game or aged cheeses.
