About Rum and Cane Spirits from Martinique

About Rum and Cane Spirits from Martinique
The leading spirit in Martinique is rum; made from cane juice; it is known as Rhum Martinique Agricole. There are blanc (white), "élevé sus bois" (cask aged) and "vieux"(extra aged) versions. Minimum alcohol level is 40%. Older Martinique rums, aged six years or longer, are deep amber or bronze in color and offer notes of brown sugar, caramelized nuts, coconut and meringue; medium to full-bodied, these rums have a long finish with notes of tobacco and brown spices. They are priced from $25 to $60, a result of their quality as well as their limited production.
