Awatere Valley
The Awatere Valley is the most georgraphically distinct sub-region of Marlborough at the top of New Zealand's South Island. It lies south of the Wairau Valley and stretches inland from the sea. This sub-region is cooler, drier, and windier and as the valley progresses south, it provides higher elevations. This results in lower yields that produce aromatic Pinot Noir and intensely varietal Sauvignon Blanc, which are the mainstays.
