Violet color. Aromas and flavors of cedar blossoms and sap, cracked pepper, dried tomatoes mulberries, and geranium with a supple, bright, dryish medium-to-full body and a smooth, delightful, medium-length finish displaying touches of pomegranate, pencil shavings, and dried leaves with fine, dusty tannins and moderate oak flavor. A supple and Pinot Noir-like red for a savory, gamey meal; serve with slight chill.

For the wine consumer jaded by the chocolate and vanilla worlds of Cabernet and Chardonnay, a little diversity in the nightly wine selection can offer a welcome respite. Though hardly the "next new thing," a number of regional specialties around the country are waiting to surprise the unsuspecting wine tourist and provide a welcome change of pace.

A number of these wines are made in states such as Wisconsin or Missouri, from grapes such as Marechal Foch, Frontenac and Marquette; they are idiosyncratic with tangy flavors and moderate tannins; they are meant for early consumption.

Our Other Red Hybrid category is specifically for less common red hybrids, or new and innovative red hybrid grape cultivars.
