About Foreign-Export Stout

About Foreign-Export Stout
Foreign stouts are dark brown to black in color and are strong in alcohol ranging from 5.5-9%. Assertive flavors of roasted coffee and dark chocolate provide the majority of the character of this style, with many versions also featuring medium-to-high hop bitterness. Foreign, or export, stouts were first brewed as a higher gravity version of sweet or dry stouts. These beers were first brewed to withstand export to tropical markets, but today may be found nearly everywhere. Noteworthy examples of this style include: Lion Stout, ABC Extra Stout and Guinness Foreign Extra Stout.
